Farmer Stories

In this series of stories and videos, CalCAN profiles many of California’s most innovative sustainable farmers and ranchers. Learn about growers who are employing climate-friendly approaches to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and sequester carbon, using practices that can also provide benefits such as water conservation, improved air and water quality, and enhanced wildlife habitat and biodiversity. Watch John Teixeira of Lone Willow Ranch describe his soil-enriching composting methods, learn about rotational grazing on the Burroughs Family Farm, or read up on how Russ Lester generates renewable energy and uses water-conserving irrigation methods for his walnut orchards at Dixon Ridge Farms. Many of these farmers and ranchers serve as examples for CalCAN’s series of farmer fact sheets, which provide practical information on enhancing the resilience of California farms to climate change.
