In 2011, the WRTC joined the Climate Solution University program, a project of the Model Forest Policy Program and the Cumberland River Compact. Climate Solutions University was an opportunity to create a customized climate adaptation plan for Trinity County, CA. Communities like those in Trinity County that are resource-dependent are experiencing and observing the impacts of climate change on forest and water resources they rely on every day. In order to begin developing and implementing resilience strategies, the community had to assess local climate impacts, and then work together to develop potential solutions. The WRTC and their county partners developed a climate adaptation plan that addresses threats and opportunities for a resilient future. They’ve begun implementing strategies that will help them adapt their management of natural resources, shift the economy, and support a vibrant local culture in the decades to come.
